meine Wochenende

What do you people want?? Some excitement? Ideas I've heard so far: trivia, games, wild pictures. You know, I can't help you too much. Life is pleasantly quiet and steady here.
On Friday two other T.A.s and I headed across the boarder to Bratislava. That was pretty exciting. We changed our euros in the train station and I gave the guy a leery eye as he doled out the koruna, which I'm sure prevented us from being ripped off. I've gotten pretty good at the leery eye, although honestly, I feel bad about it. Half the time I'm dealing with annoyed bus drivers who I've caught picking their noses, shooting me the leery eye and then half the time I'm shooting the leery eye at nice librarians in a premature self-defence.
Bratislava, complete with it's cobblestone streets, British tourists and castle looming in the background, is a great day trip - and a fairly cheap one too.
Arthur and I had two other T.A.s over for dinner that night, one from Australia and one from Chicago. I'm excited because I think I'm going to start playing floor hockey and soccer in Eisenstadt with them soon. We also got the word out about our house warming party Friday.
Saturday was the Lange Nacht der Museen and the museums all throughout Austria were open until 1 am. I got a student ticket and I have to say, the Museum of Modern Art was the coolest of the ones I visited. (I checked out the Opera Museum for you too, Mary.) Probably the weirdest part of the night was at the Tanzquartier. All these people were standing around with headphones and beer by these two vans. With some time to kill before a rousing game of beer pong at another T.A.'s place, I jumped on the bandwagon and got in line. I never did figure out exactly what the point of it all was, but first someone got on a mic and asked us to sing along with him to this weird song he wrote called *Amoebia. Then we followed the vans around - there were about 100 of us - listening to trance music, visiting the graphic arts museum and architecture museum (they're all a part of the Museumsquartier, all within the same complex) and started walking down the street towards the Guertel, the outer ring of the city with all the hip new bars. Anyway, I chased down the van with a group of Spanish twenty-somethings during that last part I described and threw in my headphones. It was all too much like the story of the Pied Piper and it was time for some beer pong.
*song excerpt:
Amoebia, Amoebia
Empty faces in open space
Amoebia, Amoebia
Eternal is your grace
And when we swim
You do bikini
To find the open doors
And if you stay
Amoebia
Our cells divide like yours.
